Meet Our Team
Aloha mai kākou!
Our team is working on further analyzing the data of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths here in Hawaiʻi. Since the pandemic data is readily available, we do our best to provide in-depth analysis and predictions for the public. We are all civil engineering students working under our research advisor, Dr. Albert Kim, in the Computational Civil Engineering Lab. You can learn more about each of us below!

Seth ColburnResearch Assistant Seth is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He wants this research to show younger Native Hawaiians how math and science can be applied to real-life problems. He hopes that by doing so, they will be interested in pursuing a degree in STEM as well.

Dr. Albert KimResearch AdvisorProf Kim is currently a full time professor and a graduate chair at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering under the College of Engineering. In his computational environmental physics lab (CEPL), his group develops fundamental theories and simulation methods to design future engineering systems, related to water, energy, and particles, using statistical physics and high-performance computing.

All data shown is obtained at http://usafacts.org/visualizations/coronavirus-covid-19-spread-map/. This website allows us to gather daily statistics of confirmed cases across the Hawaiian Islands, which allows us to predict future instances mathematically. The student technical report is underway. This project is supported by the National Science Foundation through the Native Hawaiian Science and Engineering Mentorship Program in summer 2020.
